Giving back to the community is all in a day’s work for the Nitel team. On October 21, Nitel held its third annual 5k Charity Challenge, a walk/run for Nitel staff along Chicago’s lakefront that benefits Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. Mercy Home is a Chicago based long-term residential facility for troubled young men and women. For the past three years, Nitel has made a donation to the organization based on the number of staff who participate in the event. As one of the more popular Nitel events of the year, it once again drew close to 100% staff participation.

While the ultra-competitive chose to run for time, others sought satisfaction in completing the 5K (3.1 mile) run or enjoying a walk in the sunshine and some time away from the office. Still others chose to volunteer as timers, course directors or photographers. When the dust settled, COO Ron Grason held on to his title for the third consecutive year, finishing the race a minute and a half ahead of the second place finisher.

“Our involvement with Mercy Home has been an enjoyable experience that I am excited to be a part of. Our staff has rallied around Mercy Home’s mission and always steps up to contribute, whether it’s the 5K run/walk, our winter coat drive or last year’s book drive,“ said CEO Rick Stern. “The Mercy Home team does such great work with their residents, which benefits the entire community.”
