Tim Basa is our own Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the telecom business.

And it’s not just because, at 6-foot-10, he’s nearly as tall as Kareem. Or because he played college hoops.

Kareem was the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. Tim’s an all-star sales producer. His high-energy style, drive and enthusiasm motivate others.

As Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nitel since August 2009, Tim is responsible for overseeing our sales force nationwide and expanding marketing and business development strategies. Tim has spent his entire 15-year career in telecommunications, starting as a door-to-door long-distance phone service salesman. Prior to joining Nitel, he was vice president of sales at Oak Park, Mich.-based BullsEye Telecom Inc., where he helped build multi-location business services lines. Previously he was vice president of business development at Telegration in Troy, Mich., and sales manager at Preferred Telecommunications. He is a graduate of GrandValleyStateUniversity in Allendale, Mich.

Tim has conducted sales and marketing training for sales professionals throughout the United States, and his articles appear regularly on the Internet, in newsletters and in magazines. He has been named a Telecom Master Mind by Phone+ magazine and a Power Seller by Crain’s Detroit Business.

When he’s not traveling on business, you can find Tim, a Detroit native, relaxing with his wife and two young children. A self-described “sales and marketing geek,” Tim seeks out books on the topic dating to the 1920s in his quest to continually learn.
