Broadband Stimulus Funding Spotlights Niche Nitel Knows Well
The government-backed effort to connect all American homes and businesses to broadband services highlights the need for affordable network options in rural areas.
While many telecom providers are entering this market due to its current growth, Nitel has built its business serving this niche for nearly a decade.
Two recent customer cases illustrate the edge Nitel brings to developing comprehensive rural connectivity solutions.
Nitel this year began implementing the nationwide MPLS network of a broadband wireless provider that is using WiMAX technology to deliver wireless broadband to unserved and underserved rural communities. The provider, which is using a combination of private and government financing to launch a rollout of affordable high-speed broadband Internet and voice services to more than 6 million people, selected Nitel to provide MPLS solutions in its rural connectivity plan based on Nitel’s rural network expertise and flat-rate pricing.
“This customer was able to see that with Nitel they could build their network based on two prices,” said Ron Grason, Nitel COO. “Our rural connectivity focus, knowledge of the business, and flat-rates made it as easy for them.”
Meanwhile, a major cable company in the Southeast was looking to re-source its circuits for voice products, primarily to obtain better pricing for its customers. Nitel won several of the contracts in rural areas.
Grason noted that Nitel’s ability to leverage agreements with multiple carriers was what differentiated Nitel to these customers. Nitel also offered customized service agreements to fit the needs of the projects and the customers, and turned around the pricing and terms quickly.
Nitel’s provisioning team is impressing the broadband provider with its commitment to service, Grason said. The provider is opening new markets every day, and the Nitel team is implementing the service quickly.
“We offer dedicated resources and we’re available 24/7,” Grason noted.
