Trust John Sawin to apply the laws of the game whether on the soccer field, in the courtroom or during a business negotiation.
As a soccer referee, he keeps dozens of games moving and fair throughout the spring and fall seasons in Chicago. As an attorney, he has an extensive background in litigation and helps his clients reach deals that mitigate risk while not getting in the way of opportunity.
John has been representing Nitel since the company’s inception and has served as our outside general counsel since 2008. He often is engaged in finalizing customers’ service agreements, and while his central responsibility is protecting Nitel’s legal position, customers and agents find him approachable, flexible and a genuine problem-solver. He also handles other corporate and litigation matters for Nitel.
He has successfully represented clients in numerous trials in state and federal courts throughout his legal career. In addition to his solo and small firm practices, John has been a litigation associate with Chicago law firms Childress Duffy Goldblatt, Ltd., and Briski & Alfieri.
John earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and his J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and Florida, as well as to practice before the federal courts in the Northern District of Illinois, the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He is a member of the American Association for Justice.
John lives in Chicago with his wife and two children.
