New high-speed Cisco networking technologies and secure SD-WAN services further enable Nitel channel partners to future-proof their customers’ networks

CHICAGO – Sept. 18, 2017 – Nitel, a leading nationwide managed telecom service provider, today announced a series of upgrades to its network infrastructure to support the growing demand for next-generation technologies including IoT, cloud and mobility solutions. The announcement comes just months after Nitel announced the expansion of its managed services portfolio to include SD-WAN and SD Security services.

According to IDC’s Worldwide Semiannual Internet of Things Spending Guide¹ published in June 2017, worldwide spending on Internet of Things (IoT) is forecasted to grow 16.7% year over year in 2017, reaching just over $800 billion. By 2021, according to the guide, global IoT spending is expected to total nearly $1.4 trillion. In its forecast, IDC also said that industries making the largest investments in 2017 include manufacturing ($183 billion), transportation ($85 billion) and utilities ($66 billion) – some of the top vertical markets served by Nitel and its channel partners. The growth of IoT in the healthcare space, another vertical market served by Nitel and its channel partners, is also on the rise with Grandview Research forecasting the IoT healthcare market to be worth $409.9 billion by 2022.

“The projected growth in IoT spending places us at a critical point in the evolution of the network,” said Lawrence Edmond, senior vice president, Network Engineering, Nitel. “Businesses will require a significant amount of bandwidth to support both their IoT-connected devices, alongside the growing number of cloud-based communications, collaboration and mobility applications their end-users have come to rely on. By upgrading our network to support Internet ports up to 100Gbps, and adding next-generation networking services including SD-WAN, Nitel is providing the technical infrastructure, high-performance bandwidth and secure solutions channel partners need to confidently sell and support advanced and emerging cloud-based technologies.”

As part of its network enhancements, Nitel is deploying Cisco ASR 9900 series routers throughout its points of presence. “We continue to rely on the latest Cisco gear due to the scalability and performance it affords our customers.” continued Edmond. “Cisco’s proven platform gives customers the foundation they need to advance their business by taking advantage of IoT, cloud and mobility solutions, as well as SD-WAN, SDN and network function virtualization.”

Nitel will be attending the Channel Partners Evolution Conference, taking place Sept. 25-27 in Austin, Tex. To set an appointment with Nitel executives to learn more about the investments Nitel is making in its nationwide network, visit https://www.nitelusa.com/contact-us-pages-110.php.
